Lisdoonvarna in Country Clare, Ireland is home of the world famous “matchmaking festival”. The town is quite braggadocious about the claim that most true love matches are made here than in heaven, but in talking with a local we found that most of the village people think this is quite sad, a bunch of “older women from America” come over to meet a farmer to take care of them. The farmers think is is fun but the Americans take it too seriously. We finally asked how old is old and were told in the 60s. I got the feeling they are glad to have the tourism claim but that is about it.
While we were there we ate at The Irish Arms, which is the quintessential “Irish Pub”. It’s dark on the inside, the floors are uneven, the food is good and the people are great. Kind, funny and welcoming to tourists, this is on the main street and should definitely be a stop should you find yourself in this adorable little Irish town.
